Security and Safety at the 2030 World Cup: Morocco’s Strategies to Ensure a Safe Experience for Fans

As part of its extensive preparations to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup — jointly organized with Spain and Portugal — the Kingdom of Morocco is placing security and safety at the heart of its priorities, aiming to deliver a well-managed tournament and a safe experience for fans coming from across the globe.

Comprehensive National Security Plan

The General Directorate of National Security has announced the launch of a comprehensive security plan designed to enhance infrastructure and human resource capacity. This includes increasing the number of security personnel, organizing specialized training programs, developing smart surveillance systems in stadiums and sensitive areas, and preparing emergency response plans to counter potential threats.

International Cooperation and Security Expertise Investment

To strengthen international cooperation, Abdellatif Hammouchi, Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, has conducted working visits to several European countries — including Germany and Spain — to exchange experiences in securing major international sporting events. Media reports confirmed that these meetings focused on coordinating intelligence efforts and information sharing to ensure effective joint security among the host countries.

Reports from sources such as Morocco World News and Atalayar have praised Morocco’s preparations, highlighting the country’s adherence to international standards and its awareness of the critical role that security plays in the success of global events.

New Legislation to Secure Major Events

In parallel with the security measures, Morocco’s Ministry of Justice is working on drafting new legislation to govern criminal incidents linked to international sports events, including the 2030 World Cup. This law aims to align the national legal framework with the specific requirements of such events, enabling rapid and lawful responses to infractions and emergencies.

Advanced Security Infrastructure

Regarding infrastructure, the Moroccan company SEPSI has been assigned to oversee security at the new Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca. The stadium is expected to accommodate around 115,000 spectators, making it one of the largest in the world. It will be equipped with cutting-edge surveillance systems, including artificial intelligence and facial recognition technology.

A Moroccan Vision for Inclusive and Humane Security

Commenting on these efforts, security expert Dr. Said El Amrani stated, “Morocco fully understands that the success of the 2030 World Cup is not only about sports infrastructure but also about the ability to ensure a secure and humane sports environment.” He added that “the Moroccan security plan adopts a proactive approach based on technology, training, and openness to international partnerships.”

Thanks to this comprehensive strategy, Morocco seeks to offer a model to follow in organizing major sporting events — one where readiness is not limited to logistics, but also includes a firm commitment to the highest standards of safety and security, ensuring a unique and safe experience for millions of expected fans.
