The Moroccan Royal Gendarmerie successfully rescued two tourists, a Moroccan and his German wife, who were stranded in heavy snow in a remote mountainous area between the provinces of Tinghir and Azilal.
The incident dates back to last Friday evening when contact was lost with Moroccan tourist Rachid Harchaoui and his German wife during an exploratory trip they were undertaking between the mountains of Amsemrir and Zaouiat Ahansal.
The couple’s failure to arrive at their booked tourist shelter in Azilal province raised concerns among their relatives and friends, prompting them to launch distress calls and a wide-scale search campaign.
Reports indicate that the couple became surrounded by heavy snowfall that prevented them from either continuing their journey or turning back.
Immediately, the relevant authorities and the Royal Gendarmerie initiated a comprehensive search and combing operation in the area, which was experiencing a wave of heavy rain and snow.
The rescue teams’ efforts were successful after locating the couple using a Royal Gendarmerie helicopter, and they were transported to the city of Azilal to receive necessary medical care.
