The Royal Gendarmerie units at the judicial and territorial centers in Sidi Rahal Beach, under the Berrechid Regional Command of Settat, in coordination with the Royal Navy, successfully conducted a significant operation on Wednesday. They seized approximately 3 tons of cannabis resin, over a ton of gasoline, a “Phantom” boat, and three engines in the Atlantic Ocean near Sidi Rahal, Berrechid.
According to informed sources from “Hespress,” preliminary investigations carried out by the judicial center in Berrechid revealed that the seized items belonged to three Spanish nationals and a Moroccan, suspected of being involved in international drug trafficking.
The sources explained that the four suspects attempted to sail with the cargo on the “Phantom” boat, but a malfunction affected the engines, forcing them to swim back and seek help as they approached Sidi Rahal Beach, specifically in the Douar Al-Hawara area.
Several citizens, along with civil protection personnel, managed to rescue the suspects, who were then taken to the Sidi Rahal Gendarmerie Center in Berrechid. They were subsequently transferred to the judicial center for further preliminary investigations, which confirmed their ownership of the drug cargo.
The competent public prosecutor’s office in the Settat judicial district ordered the suspects to be placed under theoretical custody and to be questioned by the judicial police at the judicial center to uncover all circumstances surrounding the incident. They will then be presented to the public prosecutor to take appropriate legal action against them.
