Thai authorities have announced the abolition of visas for Moroccan citizens starting June 1, in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and encouraging tourism from Morocco.
The move comes at a time when the issue of the detention of a number of Moroccan citizens in Myanmar by human trafficking gangs has exploded.
Sources in the Moroccan tourism sector considered that the aforementioned “unfortunate” incident could lead to Moroccans refraining from traveling to Thailand until the crisis is resolved.
In a related context, travel agencies welcomed the decision to cancel the Thai visa for Moroccans, especially in light of the humanitarian crisis currently being experienced by Moroccans in Myanmar
