Armed attack in France to free La mouche from the hands of the authorities on its territory

INTERPOL said on Wednesday it had issued a Red Notice to locate multiple offender Mohamed Amra, who escaped during the deadly attack on his van in north-west France the previous day.

The Lyon-based international police cooperation organisation, based in central-eastern France, said on social network X that a Red Notice had been issued at the request of French authorities searching for escaped prisoner Mohamed Ammar, nicknamed ‘La Mouche’.

Red Notices allow international wanted notices issued by a country’s judiciary against suspects categorised as ‘wanted persons’ to be sent to the network in order to facilitate their arrest.

Fugitive Mohammed Amra, 30, escaped during a heavy weapons attack on a prison truck aimed at securing his release on Tuesday in Incarville Square.

During the attack, two prison officers were killed and three others were injured. The attack sparked an uproar among prison officers. Several hundred took part in a day of ‘Prison Deaths’ across France.

The escaped prisoner had numerous convictions and indictments in organised crime cases and was ‘very well known to the law’, according to Paris prosecutor Laure Picot.

His most recent conviction was on 7 May for ‘burglary’ and he was sentenced to 18 months in prison. He was on remand on other charges, including an indictment by the Marseille JIRS (Marseille Specialised Interregional Court) in a case of organised mass murder.

At the time of the attack, he was returning to the Evreux prison (north-west) where he was detained after a hearing at the Rouen Judicial Court in the same region.
