On Tuesday morning, December 31, the city of Tangier witnessed a successful security operation resulting in the arrest of 25 migrants from sub-Saharan African countries. These migrants were en route to the city of Fnideq with the intention of carrying out a mass infiltration attempt into the occupied city of Ceuta.
The arrest operation took place at the train station in Tangier, where security authorities detected the migrants’ movements as they were preparing to move to their next destination. It is believed that the group was planning to exploit the surrounding circumstances to execute their plan for irregular border crossing.
Authorities transferred the detainees to designated centers where necessary investigations will be conducted to uncover the details of their plan and organization. Appropriate legal measures will also be taken in accordance with national and international laws related to migration.
This operation reflects the vigilance of security authorities in facing the challenges of irregular migration, especially in light of the increasing repeated attempts to infiltrate cities under Spanish administration or to cross into Europe. These efforts confirm Morocco’s commitment to implementing strict migration policies while ensuring respect for human rights and the safety of all.
This incident comes in the context of ongoing efforts by Moroccan authorities to combat irregular migration. The Moroccan Ministry of Interior had previously announced the thwarting of 11,323 irregular migration attempts in the M’diq province and 3,325 attempts in the Nador province during last August.
