La Société régionale multiservices Fès-Meknès a annoncé, dans un communiqué officiel, le recours à un « programme exceptionnel » qui entraînera des interruptions dans l’approvisionnement en eau potable des villes de Fès et Meknès. La société attribue cette mesure soudaine à une « panne majeure » ayant touché l’ouvrage de transfert de l’eau produite à partir du barrage Idriss Ier, une infrastructure relevant de l’Office national de l’électricité et de l’eau potable (ONEE). Le communiqué contient un net désengagement de la société quant à la responsabilité directe de cette crise, ce qui a suscité une large indignation parmi la population.
La société a précisé que cette situation « échappe à son champ de compétence », soulignant que son rôle se limite exclusivement à la distribution de l’eau et à la gestion du service au niveau des réseaux qui lui sont confiés. En l’absence de toute clarification de la part de l’organisme producteur, le communiqué s’est contenté d’indiquer que l’approvisionnement en eau se fera à des « plages horaires المحددة » et de manière équitable entre les quartiers des deux villes, sans fournir de calendrier précis des coupures permettant aux habitants d’organiser leur consommation quotidienne de cette ressource vitale.
Dans ce contexte préoccupant, aucun communiqué ni explication n’a été émis par l’Office national de l’électricité et de l’eau potable (ONEE), pourtant responsable de la panne et des travaux de réparation. De son côté, la société régionale affirme avoir mobilisé ses ressources humaines et techniques pour atténuer les effets des coupures en exploitant les ressources disponibles, tout en suivant de près l’évolution des travaux avec les services de l’ONEE. Elle conclut en présentant ses excuses aux usagers et en les appelant à rationaliser leur consommation d’eau et à se limiter aux usages essentiels durant cette période exceptionnelle.
Fez and Meknes face water crisis: regional company distances itself and shifts responsibility to ONEE
The Regional Multi-Services Company of Fez-Meknes has announced, in an official statement, the implementation of an “exceptional program” that will lead to interruptions in the drinking water supply in the cities of Fez and Meknes. The company attributed this sudden measure to a “major failure” affecting the water transfer facility supplying treated water from the Idriss I dam, an infrastructure belonging to the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE). The statement clearly distances the company from direct responsibility for the crisis, sparking widespread public dissatisfaction.
The company clarified that this situation is “outside its scope of responsibility,” stressing that its role is limited exclusively to water distribution and service management within its network. In the absence of any clarification from the production entity, the statement merely indicated that water supply would be provided during “specific time slots” and in an equitable manner across neighborhoods in both cities, without providing a precise schedule of interruptions to allow residents to manage their daily needs of this vital resource.
In this concerning context, no communication or explanation has been issued by the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water (ONEE), which is actually responsible for the breakdown and repair works. For its part, the regional company stated that it has mobilized its human and technical resources to mitigate the impact of the outages by using available resources, while closely monitoring repair progress with ONEE services. It concluded by apologizing to customers and urging them to rationalize water consumption and limit usage to essential needs during this exceptional period.
