Fas – In an exclusive and alarming statement to “Fas News,” the Digital Content Observatory sounded the alarm about the future of the general medical profession in Morocco, warning that thousands of doctors may face the risk of unemployment in the coming years due to a radical change in citizens’ behavior driven by the widespread use of artificial intelligence tools.
The observatory explained that its analysis is not based on expectations of an oversupply of graduates, but rather on the observation of a “silent revolution” characterized by a significant decline in citizens’ visits to general practitioners’ clinics. It attributes this phenomenon to the daily use by thousands of generative AI models, such as ChatGPT and its equivalents, to understand their symptoms and seek proposed treatments, then heading directly to pharmacies—effectively bypassing the essential role of the doctor within the healthcare system.
In this context, the head of the Digital Content Observatory, a PhD researcher specializing in digital human rights protection and an expert in cybersecurity, confirmed that this phenomenon is accelerating. He stated: “Despite the restrictions imposed by AI companies on medical consultations, most users have become adept at circumventing them to obtain answers, which poses unprecedented challenges for the health sector.”
The observatory issued a dual warning through “Fas News”:
- To citizens: It cautioned against blindly trusting everything AI provides in the medical field, emphasizing that these models remain prone to serious errors that could have severe consequences on their health.
- To doctors: The observatory stressed that unless medical services—especially those provided by general practitioners—are improved and offer real added value beyond the initial diagnosis now easily provided by machines, the majority face the threat of unemployment in the near future.
The observatory concluded by affirming that this shift does not signify the end of the medical profession, but rather is an urgent and pressing call to develop and adapt it to the new digital reality, focusing on areas where humans cannot be replaced by machines, such as the human relationship with patients, in-depth diagnostic accuracy, and comprehensive healthcare follow-up.
