Report on Draa-Tafilalet Regional Council Referred to Public Prosecution

A detailed report from the Supreme Audit Court has been referred to Hassan Dakki, the Public Prosecutor, revealing serious financial and administrative irregularities in the Draa-Tafilalet Regional Council during the previous term led by Habib Choubani from the Justice and Development Party

The report, prepared by judges from the Regional Audit Court, documented significant violations in public fund spending, most notably two suspicious school transport bus procurement contracts worth nearly six billion centimes.

The investigation revealed that these contracts were awarded to two newly established companies under dubious circumstances, prompting the Public Prosecution to refer the file to the Prosecutor General at the Fez Court of Appeal for investigation.

The Regional Judicial Police have initiated investigations involving Habib Choubani, several of his deputies, and council officials, collecting documents related to the suspicious contracts.

The Ministry of Interior and the Regional Treasurer had previously raised reservations about some of the council’s expenses, confirming the scale of financial irregularities during the mentioned period.

The irregularities included illegal travel compensations and questionable catering expenses, with a focus on the role of certain parties in passing contracts through devious methods.

Investigations are ongoing to uncover the full details of the case, with expectations of revealing more information in the coming days.
