The Moroccan government has announced direct financial assistance for the rehabilitation of homes damaged by recent floods in the southeastern regions of the kingdom. This announcement came during the first meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Committee tasked with the rehabilitation program for affected areas, chaired by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch on Wednesday in Rabat.
According to a statement issued by the committee, financial support will be provided to 1,121 affected homes, including 269 completely collapsed houses and 852 partially damaged ones. The aid will amount to 140,000 dirhams for fully collapsed houses and 80,000 dirhams for partially damaged homes.
This program comes in implementation of royal directives, with the government allocating a total budget of 2.5 billion dirhams for the comprehensive rehabilitation program. These funds will be pooled in the National Fund for Combating the Effects of Natural Disasters.
The program also includes the rehabilitation of infrastructure, including roads, telecommunications networks, electricity, drinking water, and sanitation systems. Support will also be provided for agricultural activities, rehabilitation of irrigation systems, and assistance to farmers in rebuilding their livestock in the affected areas.
The meeting was attended by several concerned ministers, including Minister of Interior Abdelouafi Laftit, Minister of Economy and Finance Nadia Fettah, Minister of Equipment and Water Nizar Baraka, along with other ministers involved in the program.
This step affirms the Moroccan government’s commitment to responding quickly and effectively to the consequences of natural disasters, and its keenness to support affected citizens and reconstruct the stricken areas as soon as possible.
