The Moroccan Ministry of Health and Social Protection has announced a new reduction in the prices of certain medications. This ministerial decision was published in issue 7320 of the Official Gazette.
The decision includes reviewing, approving, and reducing prices for original, generic, and biosimilar drugs, both for hospital and pharmacy sales. The new prices will come into effect two weeks from the date of publication.
The Ministry explained that this new list came after studying requests to set public selling prices for original drugs and requests for approval of drug selling prices, submitted by pharmaceutical manufacturing companies.
According to the published text, selling prices for seven original drugs were set, and selling prices for eight generic drugs were approved. However, the list revealed selling prices for about 16 pharmaceutical products that have been revised downward for the public and hospitals.
Notably, some of these medications have seen significant price reductions. For example, the price of Fluconazole Aguettant 2 mg/ml, used to treat infections, has decreased from 810.00 dirhams to 472.00 dirhams for the public, a reduction of over 300 dirhams.
Prices of many other medications have also decreased significantly. The Ministry has published a complete list of medications included in this reduction.
This decision comes as part of the Moroccan government’s efforts to improve access to medications and reduce the financial burden on citizens in healthcare. This measure is expected to contribute to enhancing social protection and improving the quality of health services in the kingdom.
