National Trade Union Coordination in Health Sector Announces 5-Day Nationwide Strike

In a statement issued on Sunday, July 21, 2024, the National Trade Union Coordination for the Health Sector in Morocco announced the organization of a nationwide strike lasting five days, protesting what they described as the government’s disregard for their legitimate demands.

According to Statement No. 10 issued by the Coordination, the strike will begin on Monday, July 22, and continue until Friday, July 26, 2024. It will include all hospital, preventive, and administrative institutions, as well as training facilities across the country, with the exception of emergency and intensive care departments.

The Trade Union Coordination also announced a protest stand in front of the Parliament on Thursday, July 25, 2024, starting at 11:30 AM.

The statement explained that this escalation comes after several attempts to communicate with the Prime Minister regarding the demands of healthcare workers, which according to the Coordination, have not received a response. The statement held the Prime Minister responsible for any consequences resulting from this strike, including the lack of health services for citizens.

The Coordination indicated that it will announce future protest actions if the government does not respond to the legitimate and fair demands of healthcare workers included in the agreement and minutes signed with the unions.

It is worth noting that this statement is signed by several unions in the health sector, reflecting the level of tension in the sector and the increasing demands of its workers to improve their working conditions and meet their professional requirements.

The coordinated action highlights the ongoing challenges in Morocco’s healthcare system and the determination of healthcare workers to have their concerns addressed by the government.
