Taza residents and health sector unions are increasingly angry about the lack of obstetricians at Ibn Baja Hospital, which threatens the lives of pregnant women.
Several union members wrote to the regional governor asking him to intervene urgently and solve this crisis by providing doctors specialized in obstetrics and gynecology, after the illness of one doctor, the pilgrimage of another doctor, and the vacation of two Chinese doctors.
The same trade union parties (National University of Health – National Union of Public Health) accused the officials of the regional delegation of the Ministry of Health of shirking the responsibility of providing a specialized doctor, stressing that the patchwork solutions taken do not meet the needs of pregnant women, but rather put their lives at risk.
The absence of a proactive human resources management policy in the hospital is the main reason for this crisis, which has led to disastrous working conditions for midwives, who are forced to work in the face of a severe shortage of doctors.
Under the slogan “Save Pregnant Women. Under the slogan “Save the maternity department”, some health unions organized a protest in the lobby of the Ibn Baja hospital administration, followed by a partial warning sit-in and a protest march that started from the administration in the direction of the mother and child department.
The aforementioned unions call on the responsible authorities to put an end to this ongoing crisis and provide specialized doctors as soon as possible to ensure the safety of pregnant women and their babies.
