Chicken prices have finally come down, easing a lot of financial burdens for consumers. The price of a kilogram is now about 17 dirhams, after reaching 20 dirhams in recent weeks.
According to specialists in the field, this decrease is due to rising temperatures, although they point out that production is still expensive. Jaber Abu Bakr, a member of the Moroccan Poultry Association, explained that the cost of one kilogram currently ranges between 13 and 14 dirhams in wholesale markets.
Our source explains, “Despite the decline in poultry prices, production costs continue to rise due to the rise in the prices of feed and basic products. This rise also affects the prices of chicks due to delayed rains.”
Abu Bakr also pointed out that climatic conditions led to the emergence of the virus and caused great losses to breeders.
Slaughtered chicken: The price of slaughtered chicken ranges between 33 and 48 dirhams per kilo.
Live chicken: The price of live chicken ranges between 17 and 21 dirhams per kilo.
Live local chicken: The price of live local chicken ranges between 38 and 49 dirhams per kilo.
Regarding the recent change in chicken prices, prices witnessed a noticeable decline at the beginning of this week. Prices recorded numbers between 13 and 14 dirhams per kilogram in wholesale markets, and chicken prices in agricultural farms also fell to 13 dirhams per kilogram. This decline appears to be partly due to rising temperatures, but production costs remain a challenge due to rising prices of feed and basic products. Delayed rain also affects chick prices.
The climatic conditions and the emergence of the virus have also caused great losses to breeders, and this reflects the challenges facing the poultry sector in Morocco.
