Morocco celebrates Princess Lalla Asmaa’s birthday and highlights her social work

Rabat – Morocco celebrates the birthday of Princess Lalla Asmaa today, Tuesday, September 29, 2026, an occasion to highlight her ongoing record of social work, particularly in supporting deaf and hard-of-hearing children and promoting their integration into society.

Princess Lalla Asmaa chairs the Lalla Asmaa Foundation, which over the past years has developed programs and initiatives aimed at supporting deaf and hard-of-hearing children, ranging from early screening and medical care to training, education and social support.

Among the recent milestones in this work was Princess Lalla Asmaa’s participation, on September 15, alongside Kenya’s First Lady, Rachel Ruto, in a visit to Moroccan and Kenyan patients who benefited from cochlear implant surgeries at the Mohammed VI International University Hospital in Rabat, as part of the fourth phase of the international “United… We Hear Better” program and the national “Nismaâ” campaign.

On the same day, Princess Lalla Asmaa chaired a luncheon hosted by King Mohammed VI in honor of Rachel Ruto and her accompanying delegation, after welcoming her the previous day at Rabat-Salé Airport on the occasion of a working visit to Morocco.

Earlier, on June 30, the princess chaired at the headquarters of the Lalla Asmaa Foundation in Rabat the closing ceremony of the 2025-2026 school year, a milestone reflecting the Foundation’s continued support for deaf and hard-of-hearing children and their families.

On June 16 in Rabat, she also chaired the first “Patients’ Day” for people living with deafness, an initiative that coincided with the launch of the “Hearing Aid for All” program, as part of the continuation of the national “Nismaâ” Foundation’s programs and the international “United… We Hear Better” program.

Another aspect of this work dates back to December 2025, when Princess Lalla Asmaa chaired, on December 12, the opening of the first African Conference on cochlear implantation in children at Mohammed VI University of Health Sciences in Rabat, as part of efforts to strengthen cooperation and expertise in the treatment of childhood deafness and cochlear implantation at the African level.

Four days earlier, she inaugurated in Meknes the “Princess Lalla Asmaa” Center, dedicated to providing integrated and free services to deaf and hard-of-hearing children from neighboring cities and communities, making it a regional center for the care of this group.

In November 2025, Princess Lalla Asmaa traveled to Nairobi on a working visit at the invitation of Rachel Ruto. The following day, she took part at Kenyatta National Hospital in the launch of the fourth phase of the “United… We Hear Better” program, while Kenya’s First Lady hosted a dinner in her honor at the presidential palace.

Princess Lalla Asmaa’s activities are not limited to the social and healthcare fields. Her interests also extend to cultural and sporting fields, in addition to her honorary presidency of the Moroccan Association for the Protection of Animals and Nature.

The celebration of Princess Lalla Asmaa’s birthday this year comes as the Lalla Asmaa Foundation continues to implement programs aimed at improving care for deaf and hard-of-hearing children and expanding access to screening, treatment and rehabilitation services, with a number of initiatives extending to the African and international levels.
