Boulemane – The second edition of the Saffron, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants, Local Products, Traditional Crafts, and Social and Solidarity Economy Festival officially opened recently in the city of Boulemane. The opening ceremony was presided over by the Secretary-General of the Boulemane Provincial Administration, representing the Provincial Governor, in the presence of several officials, elected representatives, heads of external government departments, professionals, and stakeholders in the fields of agriculture and the social economy.
The second edition of the festival aims to establish the event as a platform for promoting the agricultural and economic potential of Boulemane Province, with a particular focus on enhancing local products, encouraging investment, and creating new opportunities for cooperatives and local producers.
The opening program included the presentation of the festival’s official promotional video, which was broadcast on Al Aoula and the Amazigh TV Channel, in addition to an institutional presentation highlighting the province’s agricultural potential and investment opportunities across various production sectors. The event also featured the distribution of agricultural equipment and machinery to several professional organizations as part of efforts to strengthen production capacity and improve the sector’s productivity.
Alongside the opening of the exhibition stands, a series of scientific seminars was launched. These included a presentation by Aziza Ighza, a planning and project management expert at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), focusing on the planning and implementation of agricultural projects, as well as a scientific lecture by Dr. Dina El-Naggar, a researcher at the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA), addressing ways to improve agricultural practices and strengthen the resilience of agriculture to climate challenges.
According to local community representatives in Boulemane, the current edition has witnessed noticeable organizational improvements compared with the previous one, particularly regarding exhibition spaces, stand organization, and technical arrangements. They believe these improvements reflect a commitment to strengthening the festival’s economic dimension and linking local products with marketing and investment opportunities.
The same sources added that several members of the Moroccan diaspora originating from Boulemane Province and residing abroad expressed satisfaction with the quality of the organization, considering such initiatives an effective way to promote the province’s potential and enhance its visibility.
At the same time, local community representatives pointed out that the opening ceremony was marked by the absence of representatives from the Boulemane Municipal Council, despite the city hosting the event. According to the same sources, this absence has raised questions about the importance of institutional participation in events dedicated to local development and the promotion of the province.
The same representatives believe that stronger coordination among local institutions and organizations would contribute to the success of such events and improve their ability to achieve economic and development objectives, particularly in promoting local products, creating new partnerships, and expanding marketing opportunities for cooperative products.
The organizers and local stakeholders hope that the outcomes of the second edition will lead to practical projects and partnerships that support the local economy and further establish the Boulemane Saffron Festival as an annual event combining economic development with the promotion of the province’s agricultural and natural assets.
