Taza – Local community actors in the city of Taza stated that the Al Kousha neighborhood is experiencing deteriorating environmental conditions amid ongoing signs of neglect that are raising concerns among residents and threatening their health and safety, according to a video recently circulated on social media.

La vidéo montre, selon les informations relayées, une accumulation de pierres et de végétation anarchique dans plusieurs points du quartier, favorisant la prolifération de serpents, de rats et d’insectes nuisibles, ce qui constitue une source d’inquiétude croissante pour les habitants, notamment les enfants.
According to circulated reports, the video shows piles of stones and uncontrolled vegetation in several parts of the neighborhood, contributing to the spread of snakes, rats, and harmful insects, which has become a growing concern for residents, especially children.

Des acteurs locaux ont ajouté que la situation s’aggrave en raison des dépôts sauvages d’ordures et des incendies allumés sur place par certaines personnes, provoquant des odeurs désagréables et des fumées importantes, dans un contexte marqué par des avertissements concernant les conséquences environnementales et sanitaires potentielles pour les habitants voisins.
Local actors added that the situation is worsening due to illegal dumping of waste and the lighting of fires in the area by some individuals, causing unpleasant odors and rising smoke, amid warnings about potential environmental and health consequences for nearby residents.

Selon les informations disponibles, cette situation remonte à une période antérieure, après la démolition d’un bâtiment qui se trouvait sur le site durant le mandat d’un ancien gouverneur de la province. Des instructions avaient alors été données pour enlever les pierres et nettoyer la zone, mais ces mesures n’auraient pas été entièrement appliquées, selon des sources locales.
According to available information, the situation dates back to an earlier period following the demolition of a building that once stood on the site during the term of a former provincial governor. Instructions had reportedly been issued to remove the stones and clean the area, but those measures were not fully implemented, according to local sources.

Dans ce contexte, des acteurs de la société civile et des habitants du quartier ont appelé les autorités locales et les services compétents à intervenir d’urgence afin de nettoyer la zone et d’éliminer les sources de pollution et de danger, tout en activant les mécanismes de suivi et de contrôle pour garantir l’application des décisions administratives liées à la protection de l’environnement et de la santé des citoyens.
In the same context, civil society actors and neighborhood residents called on local authorities and the competent services to urgently intervene in order to clean the area and remove sources of pollution and danger, while activating monitoring and oversight mechanisms to ensure the implementation of administrative decisions related to environmental protection and public health.
