Meknes – Female and male workers of “Sicom Sicaumec” company in Meknes continue an open-ended sit-in, with a group of female workers organizing a collective iftar in the street during the month of Ramadan as part of their social and professional demands, according to their representatives.
Meknès – Les ouvrières et ouvriers de la société « Sicom Sicaumec » à Meknes poursuivent un sit-in ouvert. Un groupe d’ouvrières a organisé un ftour collectif dans la rue durant le mois de Ramadan, dans le cadre de revendications sociales et professionnelles, selon leurs représentants.

According to available information, protesters state that they worked for many years inside the factory, noting that some female workers served for more than 35 years, with most of them aged between 45 and 55. Some indicated in local meetings that their professional careers began in the 1970s.
Selon les informations disponibles, les protestataires affirment avoir travaillé de longues années au sein de l’usine, précisant que certaines ouvrières y ont exercé pendant plus de 35 ans, la majorité étant âgées de 45 à 55 ans. Certaines ont indiqué, lors de rencontres locales, que leur parcours professionnel remonte aux années 1970.

A previous statement issued by workers’ representatives indicated that the factory closure occurred suddenly, resulting, according to them, in the loss of jobs. The statement added that they received notices declaring them ineligible for health coverage benefits, despite social security and health insurance contributions having been deducted from their wages throughout their years of service.
Un communiqué antérieur des représentants des ouvrières et ouvriers précise que la fermeture de l’usine est intervenue de manière soudaine, entraînant, selon eux, la perte de leurs emplois. Le texte ajoute qu’ils ont reçu des notifications les informant de leur inéligibilité à la couverture médicale, malgré les retenues effectuées sur leurs salaires au titre de la sécurité sociale et de l’assurance maladie durant leurs années de travail.

According to the same source, the protesters are calling for justice for the workers and the proper application of the law in what they describe as a long-standing case. They stress that approximately 660 workers remain awaiting a fair and equitable solution to their social and professional situation.

L’organisation du ftour dans la rue constitue, selon certaines participantes au sit-in, un geste symbolique visant à souligner la poursuite de leurs revendications durant le Ramadan, tout en appelant à l’ouverture d’un dialogue avec les parties concernées afin de parvenir à un règlement global.
