Water resources in a number of Moroccan dams have recorded a notable improvement over the past 24 hours, driven by recent rainfall. Significant inflows were registered, positively impacting filling rates and signaling an improvement in the water situation across several regions.
Al Wahda Dam topped the list of beneficiaries, receiving nearly 47 million cubic meters of inflows, which raised its filling rate to around 55 percent. This performance reaffirms its status as the largest water facility nationwide and a key pillar of the Kingdom’s water security.
According to official data released by the “Ma Dialna” platform التابعة لوزارة التجهيز والماء (Ministry of Equipment and Water), this improvement was clearly reflected in the Sebou Basin, which recorded an overall filling rate exceeding 51 percent, with storage volumes approaching 2.8 billion cubic meters—keeping it among the country’s most vital and strategic basins.
Al Wahda Dam alone currently holds more than 1.9 billion cubic meters of water, supported by a marked improvement in the inflows of other dams within the same basin, including Bouhouda Dam and Allal El Fassi Dam. This strengthens the basin’s capacity to meet agricultural needs and supply drinking water.
In a related context, other dams across different regions of the Kingdom also registered significant increases in inflows. Ahmed Al Hansali Dam in Beni Mellal Province recorded an increase exceeding 34 million cubic meters, raising its filling rate to over 34 percent. Meanwhile, Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah Dam in the Rabat Prefecture came close to full capacity, with a filling rate of nearly 98 percent.
Oued El Makhazine Dam in Larache Province also saw a notable improvement, reaching a filling rate of around 99 percent. Likewise, Youssef Ben Tachfine Dam in Tiznit Province and Aoulouz Dam in Taroudant Province recorded substantial inflows that contributed to boosting their water reserves, despite continued disparities among basins.
This overall improvement is attributed to recent rainfall, which has played a key role in replenishing national water reserves. The developments inspire cautious optimism regarding water resource management in the coming period, particularly in light of ongoing challenges related to water stress and climate change.
