Major Blow to Drug Trafficking Networks: Security–Intelligence Coordination Foils Large Hashish Smuggling Attempt

Rabat –Regional security forces in Ouarzazate, acting in close coordination with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), thwarted a major drug-smuggling attempt in the early hours of Tuesday, December 23, resulting in the seizure of 16 packages of hashish weighing approximately 458 kilograms, according to consistent security sources.

The operation was carried out at a traffic checkpoint on the national road linking Tinghir to Ouarzazate, where the occupants of a four-wheel-drive vehicle reportedly refused to comply and showed resistance. The situation was handled with the necessary precautions, and no injuries were recorded.

A search of the vehicle revealed that it was fitted with forged license plates, and led to the seizure of around 20 grams of cocaine, bladed weapons, a firearm magazine containing two rounds, as well as six additional counterfeit vehicle plates, according to the same sources.

Security services continue search and sweep operations in the surrounding area, characterized by difficult mountainous terrain, in order to identify and apprehend the individuals who abandoned the seized vehicle.

A judicial investigation has been opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine the full circumstances of the case and uncover any potential criminal links, pending the identification and arrest of those involved, the sources added.
