Taounate.. Launch of First Phase of Main Urban Section Development with Budget of Nearly 111.5 Million Dirhams

The Governor of Taounate Province, Mr. Abdelkarim Ghanmi, oversaw on Monday, December 8, the launch of work on the first phase of the project to develop and rehabilitate the main urban section of the city of Taounate, at a total cost of 111.5 million dirhams.

This strategic project, with a total budget of 175 million dirhams, falls within the framework of a comprehensive program to modernize urban and road infrastructure in the province. The first phase covers a section 3.029 kilometers long and 17.40 meters wide, with the aim of transforming the city’s main entrance into a modern and safe urban axis that meets contemporary urban standards.

The work program includes rebuilding and developing sidewalks, fully rehabilitating liquid sanitation and rainwater drainage networks, installing a new generation of more efficient and energy-saving public lighting systems, in addition to creating green spaces and parking lots, building roundabouts to facilitate traffic flow, planting ornamental trees, and comprehensively modernizing the road.

In a statement to Maghreb Arab Press, Mr. Tarek Zahid, Head of Projects Division at the Agency for the Promotion and Development of the Northern Provinces (APDN), confirmed that the project, which will be implemented over 24 months, is the fruit of a partnership between the Agency and several national and territorial actors. He added that this development will give a strong boost to the social and economic dynamics of the region, by improving traffic flow and increasing the province’s attractiveness for investments and local initiatives.

For his part, Mr. Hicham Chabi, Provincial Delegate of the Ministry of Equipment, Transport and Logistics, highlighted the strategic nature of this project that brings together several partners (General Directorate of Territorial Communities, Provincial Authority, Taounate Municipality, Provincial Council, Agency for the Promotion and Development of the Northern Provinces, and Provincial Directorates of Equipment and Housing). He explained that the operation falls within the program to modernize and rehabilitate the road network in the province, with the aim of improving the quality of services provided to users and strengthening local social and economic development.

He noted that the rehabilitated urban section will form a natural extension of the project to double National Road No. 8 connecting Fez and Taounate, which is one of the structural axes of the region. The city of Taounate is located at a strategic road intersection linking several urban and rural centers, making the development of this axis an urgent necessity to meet the growing demand for safe and smooth mobility and to support economic development.

The completion of this project is expected to contribute to improving the urban landscape of the city of Taounate, enhancing the quality of daily life for its residents, and supporting sustainable development in the province.
