The remarks made by the head of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) parliamentary group in the House of Representatives, who described doctors as “heartless,” have triggered broad condemnation from the Coordinating Committee of General Practitioners in the Private Sector. The committee considered these statements a severe insult that undermines the dignity of doctors and tarnishes the noble medical profession, whose members have dedicated their lives to serving citizens and the nation.
In an official statement, the committee expressed deep surprise at what it described as “irresponsible rhetoric,” noting that it reveals a decline in political discourse and represents an unjustified attempt to blame doctors for the deterioration of the healthcare system. It emphasized that this decline primarily results from accumulated political and economic choices, for which the current government, led by the National Rally of Independents, bears the largest share of responsibility.
The committee condemned this inciting rhetoric aimed at demeaning doctors’ efforts instead of focusing on improving healthcare infrastructure and valuing human resources. In this context, the committee called for the following:
- Strong denunciation of these offensive statements, considering them an insult to a nationally recognized, competent, and dedicated medical body.
- Holding the parliamentary group leader and his party politically and ethically accountable for this populist rhetoric.
- Demanding a public and official apology from the speaker out of respect for the dignity of doctors and the medical profession.
- Urging the government to take responsibility for healthcare sector reforms instead of accusing doctors.
- Affirming the adoption of all legal and activist measures to protect the profession’s honor and doctors’ dignity.
The committee praised the royal initiative embodied by His Majesty King Mohammed VI presiding over the recent government council, which allocated a significant budget to support the healthcare sector, reflecting the royal care for citizens’ health and the status of medical staff. It called on the government and the coalition parties to implement these directives in a way that guarantees real reform of the healthcare system.
The statement stressed that Moroccan doctors, who have remained on the front lines during crises and epidemics, deserve support and appreciation, not accusation or belittlement. It underscored that the dignity of doctors is inseparable from the dignity of the nation and its citizens, and that any attack on it is an attack on the credibility of the state and its health system.
The committee concluded by reaffirming its commitment to defending the honor of the profession, announcing its continued struggle for doctors’ rights and the improvement of the healthcare system.
