The Confederation of Pharmacists’ Unions of Morocco, during its National Council meeting held on Friday in Casablanca, called for the adoption of a fair and balanced digitization of the country’s health system. The Confederation affirmed that the success of this national project mainly depends on involving the pharmacist as an active element in the healthcare delivery process and ensuring the safety of treatment for patients.
The Confederation’s statement explained that the meeting was dedicated to discussing the electronic prescription project and the shared health record for patients, following a meeting with the National Social Security Fund, during which pharmacists presented their vision regarding the requirements for successful digital transformation in the health sector.
The Confederation’s president, Dr. Mohamed Lhababi, stated that effective digitization of the health system cannot be implemented without real participation from pharmacists, calling for the integration of the pharmaceutical record into the shared health record so the pharmacist can fully perform their professional and scientific duties, including dispensing medications, monitoring treatments, raising patient awareness, and contributing to health prevention programs.
The Confederation emphasized several principles for ensuring the success of the digitization process, including achieving a balanced partnership among all relevant parties, providing fair compensation for digital services, supporting pharmacies with necessary technical tools, and reviewing the legal framework, especially law number 19-22, which it considered unsuitable for the professional reality.
The Confederation also demanded respect for pharmacists’ professional pathway in the dispensing and reimbursement of sterilized medical devices, enabling pharmacists to access the shared health record on equal footing with other healthcare professionals, and establishing a clear contractual framework defining the rights and obligations of each party in this field.
Dr. Lhababi concluded by affirming that digitizing the health sector represents an opportunity to enhance and valorize the pharmacy profession and build trust among the various components of the health system, ultimately serving the interests of both the patient and the entire national health system.
