Fes, Morocco – In a letter sent to the “Fes News” newspaper, an international student residing in the Mont Fleuri 1 neighborhood expressed deep concern about the deterioration of the local public park, which was once a natural escape and a vital space for residents.
The student, named Gideon Simataa, stated that the park, once a beautiful and well-maintained place, has now turned into a neglected and misused space. He emphasized that the lack of green spaces and parks in the neighborhood negatively affects the health of both local residents and international students, depriving them of the opportunity to connect with nature and engage in recreational activities.
Signs of Deterioration and Neglect
The author described the park’s condition in detail, pointing out several signs of neglect, most notably:
- The absence of designated children’s play areas and swings.
- Corrosion and rust on the walls and fences surrounding the park.
- The poor condition of the pathways, which are now filled with potholes and poorly lit.
- Dry trees and grass, and broken benches scattered throughout the space.
- The accumulation of trash and waste in various parts of the park.
A Plea to Local Authorities
Despite the neglect, the student affirmed that the park remains a popular destination for the elderly, families, and children, which highlights its significant importance to the local community. He appealed to the relevant authorities, including the municipality of Fes, to consider rehabilitating this vital space.
In his letter, the student noted that the park’s strategic location, close to several institutions of USMBA University such as the Faculty of Sciences and Techniques (FST), the National School of Arts and Crafts (ENSA), and the National School of Commerce and Management (ENCG), makes its rehabilitation a crucial step in supporting a large segment of the student population.
The student concluded his letter by calling on the authorities to take immediate action to repair and maintain the park, while also providing regular supervision to prevent misuse and ensure the safety of its visitors. He expressed hope that his plea will be heard and that the necessary measures will be taken to restore the park to its former glory.
