Tokyo, Japan – Japanese authorities have made a decisive move to expel representatives of the “Polisario” Front from Japanese territory and prohibit them from engaging in any political activities outside their participation as part of the African Union’s delegation at the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9).
Strict Measures Against the Delegation
This action follows a series of strict measures imposed by Japan on the delegation. Initially, they were not extended an official invitation, were denied accreditation badges, and were barred from speaking or participating in any of the conference sessions. Japanese authorities also placed their movements under tight security surveillance.
The “Polisario” delegation had planned to hold a press conference at the Tokyo Press Club, but the event was canceled at the last minute for “special reasons related to the delegation members.” Informed sources confirmed that the Japanese authorities were behind the cancellation and ordered the delegation to leave the country three days before their scheduled departure date.
Violation of Agreed-Upon Conditions
Sources clarify that the “Polisario” participation in the TICAD conference was an exceptional one, arranged through the African Union’s delegation. It was subject to strict conditions, limiting their attendance to sessions related to African development only.
However, the delegation breached these conditions by attempting to organize a parallel political agenda that included meetings with parliamentarians, journalists, and NGOs, in a clear violation of the protocol agreed upon with the host country. This transgression prompted Japan to take a firm stance, rejecting any attempt to exploit the international event for propaganda purposes. Tokyo underscored the necessity of respecting its sovereignty and hosting conditions, ultimately leading to the order for the delegation to leave Japanese territory.
