Meknes Police Arrest Man with Fake Pistol Near Hebrew School

Meknes, Morocco – Security services in the city of Meknes successfully arrested a 43-year-old man on Sunday afternoon who was in possession of a fake pistol near the Hebrew school in the El Mellah neighborhood. This operation comes just a few weeks after an attempt to set fire to the same location was thwarted, leading to the arrest of another individual.

According to informed sources, the suspect, a resident of the Sidi Bouzekri neighborhood known by the initials “M.E.,” aroused the suspicion of the security officers stationed at the site to secure the Jewish “Meyara” (or Mi’ara, a synagogue/shrine) and the historic Hebrew school. He was arrested after his suspicious behavior and attempt to conceal the fake pistol were noticed.

The suspect was taken to the police station for further investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, with the aim of determining the motives behind his action and uncovering any potential connections.

Meknes is considered one of the Moroccan cities that has historically hosted a large number of Jewish families in the El Mellah district. Some members of the Jewish community still make a point of visiting the city annually, especially during religious occasions like the “Hilloula” which takes place inside the “Meyara” in El Mellah.
