The General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST) has once again confirmed its pivotal role in enhancing regional and international security.
Thanks to precise intelligence provided by the DGST, the Spanish National Police were able to arrest two extremists loyal to the terrorist organization ISIS on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
The Spanish National Police announced today, Monday, the arrest of two individuals suspected of involvement in jihadist terrorism in the city of Vallfogona de Balaguer (Lleida).
This large-scale security operation was carried out in direct coordination with Morocco’s General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance.
According to “Europa Press” agency sources citing security officials, the detainees are two young men aged 24 and 26, accused of self-radicalization through extremist propaganda and active involvement in recruitment and ideological indoctrination activities.
The investigations began a year and a half ago after intense online activity by one of the suspects on platforms associated with ISIS.
Further inquiries revealed that one of the detainees was highly radicalized, regularly accessing jihadist platforms to spread propaganda and incitement. He also played a mediating role in recruitment and mobilization efforts aimed at executing terrorist attacks.
Several electronic devices were seized during the searches and are currently under analysis.
The suspects were referred to the investigating judge at Central Court No. 1 of the Spanish National Court, who ordered the main suspect to be held in pre-trial detention.
This joint operation exemplifies the high level of trust and integration between Moroccan and Spanish security services. Strategic intelligence provided by the DGST enabled the identification and neutralization of the suspects, thereby thwarting potential terrorist plans in Europe.
The success of this operation once again confirms the effectiveness of the Moroccan intelligence model and the Kingdom’s firm commitment to combating terrorism and violent extremism — not only nationally but also regionally and internationally.
