Agadir: Police Debunk “Criminal Gang” Attack Rumor in Taroudant, Clarify Details of Stone-Throwing Video

The Agadir Prefecture of National Security acted swiftly and seriously on Wednesday, August 13, to address a video widely circulated on social media platforms. The footage showed a group of people throwing stones at a car and was accompanied by comments claiming it documented an attack carried out by a criminal gang in the city of Taroudant.

Following in-depth investigations, security sources revealed that the video is not related to organized criminal activity, but is in fact the subject of an ongoing judicial investigation being conducted by the Taroudant Provincial Security District.

Details of the Incident and Background of the Dispute

According to preliminary investigation findings, the incident stemmed from a dispute between a car driver and a girl with whom he had a prior relationship. The driver forcibly tried to make the girl get into his car. At that moment, three individuals on a three-wheeled motorcycle intervened to stop him, throwing stones at him—the very scene documented in the circulating video.

Arrest of Suspects and Ongoing Investigations

The security investigation successfully identified all parties involved. Both the driver and the girl concerned were arrested. Furthermore, security forces identified the three individuals who threw stones at the driver, as well as the person who filmed and shared the video. Manhunts are currently underway to find and arrest them.

Debunking the Rumors and Confirming the Nature of the Dispute

Security sources confirmed that all those arrested are currently undergoing judicial investigation procedures under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office to uncover all the circumstances and details surrounding the case.

The same sources stressed that the available information indicates the case is nothing more than an “isolated dispute” between parties with a prior connection. It has absolutely no relation to the “criminal gang attack” claim that was erroneously and exaggeratedly circulated on social media, causing a state of public alarm.
