Major Upset in the African Nations Championship (CHAN): Kenya Defeats Morocco to Top the Group

Nairobi – In a major upset, the momentum of the Moroccan national team was halted on Sunday evening after suffering a calculated 1-0 defeat against the host Kenyan team. The match was part of the third round of Group fixtures in Group A of the African Nations Championship (CHAN 2024), being jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.

The lone goal of the match was scored by Kenyan player Ryan Ogamba in the 42nd minute, which ultimately sealed the final result and secured three precious points for the Kenyan “Stars.”

Ten Men and a Historic Achievement

Despite a decisive turning point just before the end of the first half, when Kenyan midfielder Chris Erasmus was sent off in the 45+4 minute, the Kenyan players displayed remarkable fighting spirit and a solid defensive tactic. This enabled them to protect their net and withstand the attacks of the “Atlas Lions” of Morocco throughout the second half.

With this victory, Kenya boosted its tally to 7 points, temporarily securing the top spot in Group A. In contrast, Morocco’s point total froze at 3, causing them to drop to third place—a result that places their chances of advancing to the next round in imminent danger.

Angola Mounts a Comeback to Overturn Zambia

In the same group, the second match featured dramatic action as the Angolan national team managed to overturn a one-goal deficit against Zambia, ultimately securing a 2-1 victory. This result further complicates the qualification calculations in what has proven to be the most tense and competitive group of the tournament so far.
