Coach of the Atlas Lions: “Advancing from the Group Stage Depends on Beating the Host Nation”
NAIROBI – Morocco’s national football team coach for local players, Tarik Sektioui, confirmed Saturday in Nairobi that his team aims to secure victory against Kenya in tomorrow’s match at Kasarani Stadium, part of Matchday 3 in Group A of the CHAN-2024 tournament.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Sektioui stated:
“Our primary objective is to advance beyond the group stage, and this requires defeating Kenya”, adding:
“We will confront the host nation with equal resolve and determination to claim the three points.”
The Moroccan coach cautioned about the challenge ahead:
“Kenya has delivered strong performances in previous matches, making this encounter difficult. We must give our utmost effort for the full 90 minutes to achieve a positive result”, emphasizing that
“all deployed players possess the capabilities to add significant value to the team.”
The Rest Period Challenge
Commenting on the week-long rest after Morocco’s opening match against Angola, Sektioui noted:
“This is a double-edged sword that must be carefully managed to deliver an outstanding performance.”
Players’ Confidence
National team player Oussama Lamlioui stated:
“The match will be challenging as we face the host nation, motivated by their home crowd. However, we have prepared thoroughly”, adding:
“Preparations are proceeding under excellent conditions, and we are ready to make the difference against Kenya”, affirming:
“We will give our maximum effort in this encounter and secure the three points.”
Kenyan Coach’s Warnings
Kenya’s coach, Benni McCarthy, remarked:
“Morocco is a well-organized and strong team. This match will be difficult against one of the tournament’s best teams, not only in our group but overall”, noting that
“our team has prepared well for this fixture.”
McCarthy highlighted the preparation disparity:
“Morocco had a full week to prepare, while we played our last match just two days ago”, expressing hope that
“motivation and physical fitness will be present for the Morocco encounter.”
He added:
“Several positives emerged from our first two matches, including resilience and strong character. I hope this continues against Morocco”, warning:
“Morocco is unpredictable, which is why we must deliver high-quality performance and maintain superior organization across all areas of play.”
