Officers from the Oujda Police Station, in coordination with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance, succeeded on the evening of Wednesday, July 30, 2025, in arresting three individuals, including a 17-year-old minor, suspected of involvement in a case related to fraud and impersonation as defined by law.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects contacted victims by phone, impersonating public officials and employees of private institutions, in order to obtain their banking information under the pretense of enabling them to receive cash prizes or social assistance. The suspects then used this information deceitfully to withdraw funds from the victims’ bank accounts.
Investigations led to the identification and arrest of the suspects in the city of Oujda. During searches, authorities seized five mobile phones suspected of containing digital evidence related to the criminal activity, as well as a sum of money believed to be proceeds from the fraudulent acts.
An identity check of the suspects in the national police database revealed that one of them is subject to two national arrest warrants issued by the judicial police departments of the cities of Guercif and Taza, on suspicion of involvement in similar fraud cases; moreover, a judicial ruling has been issued against him.
The two adult suspects were placed under judicial custody, while the minor was placed under supervised release pending further investigation overseen by the competent public prosecution to determine any additional criminal extensions and to clarify all alleged actions attributed to the suspects.
This operation forms part of ongoing efforts by the national police to combat electronic and financial crimes and to protect citizens’ property and rights.
