In the early hours of Sunday, July 27, 2025, the national security forces and customs officers operating at Tangier Med port successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of marijuana estimated at four tons and 374 kilograms. The drugs were carefully concealed inside a truck used for international freight transport.
This large drug seizure resulted from joint border control operations between national security and customs services, during which the narcotics were found hidden within a shipment of fruits transported by a trailer pulled by a Moroccan-registered truck. The shipment was en route to be smuggled to one of the European ports.
The truck driver, a 51-year-old Moroccan man, was arrested and placed under judicial investigation ordered by the competent public prosecution. The investigation aims to uncover all circumstances surrounding the case as well as to track all national and international links and connections related to this criminal activity.
This operation is part of the ongoing intensive efforts by various security services working at border centers to combat international drug trafficking networks and protect national security.
