French police arrested Youcef Belaïli, star of Tunisian club Espérance de Tunis and the Algerian national team, immediately upon his arrival at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport from New York. The arrest stems from his involvement in a fight that broke out on the airplane.
According to security sources, the incident began when Belaïli refused to fasten his seatbelt despite repeated warnings from the flight crew. This refusal escalated tensions with other passengers, culminating in a physical altercation that required police intervention upon the plane’s landing.
Belaïli, 33 years old and considered one of Algeria’s top footballers, is expected to face the French judiciary and may be subject to immediate trial due to this incident, which has sparked widespread media attention.
Recently, Belaïli participated with Espérance de Tunis in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, scoring a goal in their victory over Los Angeles FC, though he missed the match against Chelsea FC.
