Over the past ten days, more than 700 people have been arrested in Iran, with 26 already executed on alleged charges of collaborating with Israel. Although the crackdown is still in its early stages following the ceasefire, the situation is expected to intensify.
Iran specialist Farid Vahid warns that the regime is increasingly anxious about the possibility of a popular uprising, prompting it to tighten its security grip.
The repression has particularly targeted many Kurds and Afghans so far, and it is anticipated that the campaign will soon extend to Iran’s opposition elite, who will be accused of allying with the foreign enemy, as the regime seeks to suppress any internal threats.
