Several Arab countries welcomed on Tuesday the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump of a ceasefire agreement in the conflict between Israel and Iran, following 12 days of military escalation between the two nations.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia expressed its approval of the announcement, praising the efforts made to ease tensions. In a statement, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed hope that all parties would commit to de-escalation and refrain from using force, considering the agreement capable of restoring security and stability in the region.
Egypt described the announcement as “a major development” in efforts to contain the escalation in the region, noting that the agreement should mark a “turning point” toward ending the military confrontations between Israel and Iran.
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry affirmed in a statement that the measure represents a genuine opportunity to end the escalation and attacks, while fostering an environment conducive to resuming political and diplomatic efforts.
Meanwhile, the United Arab Emirates reaffirmed its position calling for restraint, political solutions, and dialogue, urging to spare the region from new conflicts that hinder its development and threaten the security of its peoples. The UAE reiterated its commitment to work with regional and international partners to lay the foundations for peace and promote security, stability, and development in the region and the world.
In Ramallah, the Palestinian presidency welcomed the agreement and the efforts to defuse the conflict, noting that it constitutes an important step toward restoring security and strengthening stability in the region through diplomatic means and in accordance with international law.
The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan also welcomed the ceasefire announcement, considering it likely to reduce the severe escalation the region is experiencing.
In a statement, the spokesperson for the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs told the press that the Kingdom stresses the necessity of respecting the agreement “to protect the region from the consequences of further deterioration, and to adopt dialogue and diplomacy as means to address all crises in accordance with international law and the United Nations Charter.”
The Kingdom of Bahrain also welcomed the comprehensive ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel, describing it as a positive development likely to end the war and consequently lead to regional peace and stability.
