Protecting Purchasing Power: 12,000 Violations Recorded by End of May

Nadia Fettah Alaoui, Minister of Economy and Finance, announced on Monday before the House of Representatives that over 182,000 inspection operations were conducted by the end of May, resulting in approximately 12,000 violations. These measures are part of the government’s ongoing efforts to protect citizens’ purchasing power and combat rising prices.

Responding to a question from the Constitutional Democratic and Social Group, the minister also noted that these inspections led to the destruction of more than 1,000 tons of products deemed unfit for consumption.

Fettah emphasized that the government is implementing a range of measures to preserve purchasing power and monitor prices, including intensifying inspection campaigns during Ramadan and the summer season, with the mobilization of all relevant departments, such as the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

Furthermore, the minister affirmed that the government is carrying out effective market controls to address price increases, alongside providing support through reducing the Value Added Tax (VAT) on certain products and goods, aiming to ease the burden on citizens and stabilize markets.
