As direct confrontations between Iran and Israel escalate, both sides are showcasing their military capabilities amid growing concerns over the potential expansion of the conflict in the region, according to a report by the American newspaper The New York Times.
Despite repeated Israeli strikes targeting oil facilities in Tehran and Iranian missile storage sites, Israel remains wary of Iran’s ability to carry out a “violent retaliation,” the newspaper noted.
Iran’s Missile Capabilities
Estimates indicate that Iran retains hundreds of missiles capable of reaching deep into Israeli territory, with the total number believed to be around 2,000 missiles, according to military experts. Israeli missile expert Tal Inbar explained that most of these missiles carry warheads weighing between 300 and 700 kilograms, with some full warheads weighing up to one ton.
Inbar pointed out that recent attacks reveal an evolution in Iranian tactics, as Tehran has launched simultaneous missile volleys in an attempt to overwhelm Israeli air defenses.
The Israeli military has also detected a new type of missile, previously unused against Israel, known as the “Haj Qassem.” This solid-fuel missile has a range of up to 1,600 kilometers and can be launched within minutes from underground bunkers.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Iran has increased its missile production pace and aims to manufacture 300 ballistic missiles monthly. He added, “Each missile is like a bus loaded with explosives targeting our cities.”
This escalation comes amid fears that the conflict could widen, as both sides continue exchanging strikes and escalating rhetoric.
