Taza Voices Anger Over Marginalization: Residents Cry Out Against Dire Conditions and Lack of Development

Taza – The city of Taza and its surrounding areas are experiencing a growing wave of popular discontent and frustration, as residents denounce what they describe as “tragic conditions” resulting from years of neglect, stalled development, and persistent regional inequality.

Citizens are increasingly voicing complaints about deteriorating basic services, particularly in the sectors of healthcare, employment, infrastructure, and transportation. Taza remains among the least invested-in provinces, suffering from a lack of comprehensive development strategies that meet the population’s needs.

In statements from local stakeholders and civil society activists, many expressed their deep dissatisfaction with what they called systematic marginalization, urging both central and regional authorities to take responsibility and intervene to rescue the province from its worsening situation.

Youth in the city lament the scarcity of job opportunities and the absence of recreational and sports facilities, which pushes many to consider migrating to other cities or even abroad. Meanwhile, rural areas within the province remain heavily isolated and struggle to access essential services.

Taza has witnessed several waves of popular protests over the years, demanding development and an end to marginalization. However, most of the promises made by officials have remained empty rhetoric, with little tangible impact on the ground.

Residents now hope for genuine attention to be given to Taza’s suffering, through real development programs and income-generating projects that can restore hope and uphold the principle of territorial equity, as enshrined in Morocco’s New Development Model.
