“African Lion 2025”: Field Military Hospital Provides Over 44,000 Medical Services in Tiznit

As part of the humanitarian activities running concurrently with the joint military exercises “African Lion 2025,” a medical-surgical field hospital was established in the rural commune of Anzi, in the Tiznit province, from May 5 to May 23, 2025.

This humanitarian initiative is part of the strategic partnership between Morocco and the United States, aiming to enhance military cooperation while providing social and medical services to populations in isolated areas.

Modern Infrastructure and an Integrated Medical Team

The hospital features a mixed medical team comprising 271 healthcare professionals, including Moroccan and American doctors and nurses, all mobilized to provide free medical care to the region’s inhabitants.

The hospital’s modern infrastructure includes medical and surgical units, a 20-bed hospitalization unit that can be expanded, a sterilization unit, a digital medical imaging center, a laboratory for analyses, a dental care service, a military pharmacy, and social assistance units.

Wide Range of Specialties and Services

The field hospital covers numerous specialties, including cardiology, gynecology, pulmonology, ENT, dermatology, internal medicine, ophthalmology, orthopedic surgery, general surgery, and pediatrics, in addition to an emergency service.

Since its activation, the hospital has provided over 44,000 medical services to 12,480 patients and performed 380 surgical interventions. Additionally, 4,268 pairs of eyeglasses were distributed, and 9,068 prescriptions were dispensed free of charge.

High-Level Moroccan-American Delegation Visit

A high-level joint Moroccan-American delegation visited the field hospital on Wednesday. The delegation was led by Lieutenant General Mohamed Benlouali, Chief of Staff of the Southern Zone, and General Andrew Gainey, Commanding General of the U.S. Army Southern European Task Force, Africa (SETAF-AF).

During the visit, the delegation members received detailed briefings on the humanitarian objectives, mobilized resources, and the social impact of this temporary medical facility serving local populations.

“African Lion”: A Military Exercise with a Human Dimension

The “African Lion 2025” maneuvers, which began on May 12, are taking place in several regions across Morocco, including Agadir, Tan-Tan, Tiznit, Kenitra, Ben Guerir, and Tifnit. These exercises aim to enhance interoperability between Moroccan and American forces, improve rapid response capabilities in a multinational environment, and consolidate regional peace and security.

Through this field hospital, the Royal Armed Forces and their American partners demonstrate that military cooperation can also address urgent social needs, particularly regarding access to healthcare in rural areas.
