Royal Gendarmerie Foils Large Hashish Smuggling After Truck Overturns Near Sala

Sala, May 18, 2025 – The Royal Gendarmerie services foiled a large-scale hashish smuggling attempt on Sunday evening. The operation occurred after a truck loaded with the illicit substance overturned on National Road No. 6, near the “Arbaâ Sahel” area, which falls under the Sala prefecture.

According to initial information, the overturned truck was en route from the city of Fez towards Rabat when it flipped at a point situated between the localities of Sidi Allal El Bahraoui and Al Aarajat. The accident resulted in quantities of the drugs, packed inside cardboard boxes, being scattered along the roadside.

Immediately following the incident, Royal Gendarmerie elements quickly deployed to the scene. The area was cordoned off and secured before an urgent and extensive investigation was launched under the supervision of the competent public prosecution. The investigation aims to accurately determine the circumstances surrounding the accident and uncover all details related to this smuggling operation.

Meanwhile, local sources reported that the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the overturn, and a national wanted notice has been issued for his arrest at the earliest opportunity.

This operation is part of the intensive and continuous efforts undertaken by security services in their various formations, particularly the Royal Gendarmerie deployed on national roads, to combat drug smuggling networks and organized crime, and to dry up the channels used for transporting illicit shipments between different regions of the Kingdom.
