Essaouira: 1.6 Tons of Cannabis Seized, Two Individuals Arrested in Joint Operation by National Security and Territorial Surveillance

Essaouira: Elements of the police in the Regional Security Directorate of Essaouira, acting on precise information provided by the services of the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST), seized 1.6 tons of cannabis resin and arrested two individuals with prior criminal records on the evening of Wednesday, May 14th, on suspicion of their involvement in a criminal network active in the international trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances.

The first suspect was apprehended at the entrance of the city of Essaouira immediately after his arrival aboard a truck from a city in the north of the Kingdom. The search carried out on the vehicle resulted in the discovery of 40 bundles of cannabis resin, with a total weight of 1.6 tons.

Ongoing investigations and inquiries in this case led to the identification of a second individual suspected of participating in this criminal activity, who was subsequently arrested during a security operation also carried out in the city of Essaouira.

The two suspects have been placed under judicial investigation supervised by the competent public prosecutor’s office to determine the potential ramifications of this criminal activity and to uncover all the criminal acts attributed to the individuals involved.

This security operation is part of the intensified and continuous efforts undertaken by the services of the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN) and the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST) to combat the international trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances.
