Mustafa Lakhsem, President of Imouzzer Kander Municipality, Refuses to Pay Bail and Appeals Border Closure Decision

Mustafa Lakhsem, the current president of Imouzzer Kander Municipality and former world champion in kickboxing, has publicly rejected the decision of the investigating judge at the Court of Appeal in Fès, which required him to be released on bail of 20,000 dirhams. This decision comes as part of an ongoing investigation into accusations of embezzling and misappropriating public funds.

In a video posted on his official Instagram account on Sunday, Lakhsem firmly stated that he would not pay the imposed bail, arguing that complying with this decision would imply an admission of guilt in the case, which he vehemently denies.

Lakhsem also mentioned that his defense team has decided to appeal the decision. He further indicated that there is a possibility of his arrest during the next court session due to his refusal to comply with the judge’s instructions, particularly regarding the bail payment.

These developments come after Lakhsem had previously announced in March his intention to resign from his position as president of Imouzzer Kander Municipality in October, following the completion of ongoing projects. He attributed his decision to what he described as “blockages” that hinder the implementation of development programs in the region.
