The 69th Anniversary of the Royal Armed Forces Establishment: An Institution Committed to Modernization and Continuing Its Path in Serving the Nation

Morocco will celebrate the 69th anniversary of the establishment of the Royal Armed Forces tomorrow, Wednesday. This military institution continues its journey of modernization and innovation under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the Supreme Commander and Chief of Staff of the General Staff. The Royal Armed Forces remain a symbol of loyalty and discipline, proudly reflecting dedication in serving the nation.

Since its establishment in 1956 by the late King Mohammed V, the Royal Armed Forces have become a model of development and effectiveness on various fronts, both operationally and strategically. The military institution has enhanced its position today thanks to modernization strategies, which include upgrading equipment, enhancing infrastructure, and improving the social conditions of its personnel.

Military Modernization: Equipped with the Latest Technology

As part of the continuous modernization process, the Royal Armed Forces have made significant strides in enhancing their operational capacity, including receiving the first batch of Apache AH-64 attack helicopters in 2025. This step aligns with the royal directives of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, aimed at equipping the armed forces with advanced defense capabilities that meet current challenges.

In this context, Morocco’s diverse military partnerships reflect its strategy to strengthen industrial sovereignty in the defense sector, as the Kingdom seeks to build a national military industry capable of enhancing its strategic capabilities.

Social Aspects: Ongoing Care for the Military Family

On the social front, the Royal Armed Forces continue to make significant achievements in improving the living conditions of its members. By the end of 2024, around 15,700 housing units were established, along with 79,500 units directed for ownership, thanks to generous state support, benefiting over 47,000 military personnel and National Defense Administration employees.

Additionally, a national initiative was launched to provide free land plots for veterans, along with an investment program worth 3.4 billion dirhams between 2025 and 2027. This program includes the construction of 4,300 new housing units and the modernization of military infrastructure.

National Service: Fulfilling the Aspirations of Youth

Military service remains a vital part of the Kingdom’s strategy to promote citizenship and social engagement. It provides young people with the opportunity to develop their skills and enhance their capabilities, contributing to their professional and social integration.

International Cooperation: A Strategic Partner in Peacekeeping

On the international stage, Morocco continues its commitment to peace and stability, being a key contributor to peacekeeping operations under the United Nations. The Peacekeeping Excellence Center in Ibn Suleiman reflects Morocco’s commitment to training military professionals in this field.

Joint military exercises, such as the “African Lion” exercise, organized with the United States and several friendly countries, highlight Morocco’s pivotal role in promoting regional stability and international military cooperation.

Academic Institutions: Enhancing Research and Strategic Studies

Academically, His Majesty the King announced the establishment of the Royal Center for Defense Studies and Research, affiliated with the Royal College of Higher Military Studies, in 2023. This center constitutes a significant addition to military academic research, aiming to enhance strategic approaches in defense and security matters.

The Royal Armed Forces continue to write new chapters in their rich history, remaining a cornerstone in safeguarding the Kingdom’s security, enhancing its regional stability, and contributing to global peace issues. With ongoing modernization and innovation, Morocco’s military institution remains true to the values established by His Majesty King Mohammed V, committed to a path of continuous development to achieve security and prosperity for the Kingdom.
