After Years of Waiting and Hardship, Fes Wali Intervenes to End Lalla Sakina Road Crisis, Launches Repair Project

Fes, Tuesday, May 13, 2025 – Residents of the Lalla Sakina neighborhood in the Zouagha area of Fes breathed a collective sigh of relief today, Tuesday, as Mr. Mouaad Jamai, Wali (Governor) of the Fes-Meknes region and Governor of Fes Prefecture, launched the repair works for the vital dual carriageway section leading to the Hay El Fath neighborhood. This intervention aims to put an end to years of suffering endured by the residents due to the deplorable condition of the road.

Residents of the neighborhood had previously lost hope in the municipal services responding to their repeated demands for the road’s repair, as they faced a prolonged series of excuses and justifications. Sources indicated that the latest of these excuses was the termination of the contract with the company that was supposed to undertake the works. Despite successive promises from the concerned authorities to announce a new tender, nothing materialized on the ground, which only increased the residents’ frustration and anxiety.

The residents described their long ordeal with this road as “unbearable.” During the summer, dust and flying dirt were prevalent, affecting the health of the residents and the safety of their property. In winter, the road would transform into quagmires of mud, making passage nearly impossible for both pedestrians and vehicles, in addition to causing significant material damage to cars and motorcycles.

Faced with this situation, the Wali of the region’s intervention came as a decisive solution, as he gave instructions for work to begin immediately. The “Fes Development Company” (Société Fès Aménagement) has been tasked with carrying out this important project. The company actually commenced its work on site this morning, amidst a warm welcome and great relief from the residents of Lalla Sakina and neighboring areas, who hope this project will improve their living conditions and facilitate their daily commutes.
