PJD Party in Fez Holds Authorities Responsible and Demands Radical Solutions for Dilapidated Housing Issue Following Al-Hassani Tragedy

Fez – Following the painful tragedy that struck the city of Fez with the collapse of a residential building in the Al-Hassani neighborhood of the Al-Mariniyyin district, which resulted in the death of ten people and the injury of many others, the local branch of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) in Al-Mariniyyin, Fez, issued a strongly worded statement. In it, the party held the authorities responsible for the issue of dilapidated housing, demanding that they find effective and radical solutions to this problem that threatens the lives and stability of citizens.

The statement, issued on May 9, 2025, pointed out that this tragedy forcefully brings back to the forefront the problem of houses in danger of collapse and the real danger and negative effects it poses on the social and economic levels. The party noted that this is not the first time that victims have fallen as a result of the collapse of such houses, which it considered conclusive evidence of the failure of the approach adopted to address this serious problem.

Based on this, the local branch of the Justice and Development Party in Al-Mariniyyin, Fez, affirmed and announced to public opinion the following:

1. Extending its deepest condolences and sympathy to the families of the victims, praying to God Almighty to have mercy on their souls and grant them spacious paradise, with wishes for a speedy recovery to the injured.
2. Holding the authorities responsible for the file of dilapidated housing fully accountable, and demanding that they find effective and sustainable solutions to this problem, instead of settling for patchwork and complex solutions that experience has proven to be ineffective.
3. Warning that the ongoing project to rehabilitate the city of Fez in preparation for hosting various upcoming continental and international events cannot be completed or achieve its goals without making the issue of dilapidated housing a top priority that must be addressed urgently and effectively.
4. Calling on the various relevant local communal councils to expedite the convening of extraordinary emergency sessions in the presence of all administrations and institutions concerned with the urban planning file, in order to take the necessary actions and decisions to address this issue comprehensively and definitively, to avoid the occurrence of other similar disasters in the future, God forbid.
