Larache – Judicial Police elements in the city of Larache, in a joint security operation with their counterparts in Tetouan, successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle a massive quantity of cannabis resin, estimated at two tons, on Wednesday evening. The operation resulted in the arrest of eight individuals, aged between 39 and 59, suspected of belonging to a criminal network specializing in the international trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances.

A security source reported that this high-quality operation was carried out near the coastal strip of the city of Larache, based on precise information provided by the Directorate General of Territorial Surveillance (DGST). It resulted in the seizure of a total of 51 packages of cannabis resin, with a total weight of two tons, which were prepared for international smuggling via maritime routes.

In addition, security elements were able to seize a rubber dinghy and a marine engine, as well as confiscate two vehicles bearing forged license plates, believed to have been used to facilitate smuggling operations.

The same source clarified that the suspects have been placed in police custody and are currently undergoing in-depth judicial investigation by the Provincial Judicial Police Service in the city of Tetouan, under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office. The investigations aim to uncover all potential extensions of this criminal activity and identify and arrest all other individuals involved and contributing to the commission of these criminal acts.

This successful security operation reflects the effective coordination between various Moroccan security services and the relentless efforts they are making in combating international drug trafficking networks and protecting the country from this scourge.
