Baraka Reveals Details of the Marrakech-Fes Highway with a Cost of 28 Billion Dirhams in Preparation for the 2030 World Cup

Rabat – Nizar Baraka, the Minister of Equipment and Water, has confirmed that the ministry is currently working on conducting the initial studies to define the main features of the highway project that will connect the cities of Marrakech and Fes, passing through Beni Mellal and Khenifra, in addition to determining its financing mechanisms. The Minister revealed that the estimated cost of this ambitious project has risen to approximately 28 billion dirhams.

In his response to a written question submitted by Mohamed Baddou, a Member of Parliament from the National Rally of Independents party, Baraka explained that this major project, which extends over approximately 420 kilometers, is considered one of the structuring projects for the national territory. He pointed out that the new highway will play a vital role in connecting major economic hubs in the Kingdom, such as the Marrakech-Beni Mellal axis and the Fes-Meknes axis, in addition to serving other cities located along its route, namely Kalaat Sraghna, Khenifra, Mrirt, and Azrou.

This strategic project comes within the framework of the Kingdom of Morocco’s preparations to jointly host the 2030 FIFA World Cup with Spain and Portugal, as it aims to strengthen the transport infrastructure and facilitate the movement of people between various Moroccan cities, in a way that serves the hosting of this important global event. This highway is expected to improve the attractiveness of the regions it passes through and promote economic and social development within them.
