Parliamentary representative Ahmed Al-Abadi, a member of the Party of Progress and Socialism in the House of Representatives, drew attention to the critical situation at Ibn Bajah Regional Hospital in Taza, citing severe shortages in specialized doctors and medical equipment, which undermine the quality of healthcare services for the population of the region.
In a question addressed to the Minister of Health and Social Protection, the parliamentarian noted that over half a million residents from the various municipalities in the Taza region are facing increasing difficulties in accessing essential medical treatments at the regional hospital due to a lack of human resources, particularly in certain basic medical specialties.
Al-Abadi pointed out that the shortage is not limited to staff, but also extends to medical equipment, compelling many patients to travel to university hospitals or private clinics, often located far from their homes, adding financial and physical burdens on low-income families and exacerbating their suffering.
According to the same source, there have been cases where patients were refused medical scans on the hospital’s CT scanner, citing either technical limitations or instructions from certain staff, further complicating the treatment process for patients.
In light of these circumstances, Al-Abadi has called on the minister to provide clarifications on the measures that will be taken to address the existing shortages, either through the recruitment of specialized staff or by providing necessary medical equipment, ensuring that essential healthcare services are delivered locally in a sufficient and regular manner.
