Residents of Douar Al-Nkhila in Taza Living in Complete Darkness Since 2017: Urgent Call for Completion of Suspended Lighting Project

Douar Al-Nkhila, part of the Sidi Hamou Miftah commune in the Taza region, is facing a severe crisis regarding the provision of electrical lighting to residents’ homes. The lighting project, which began several years ago, has not been completed, and although some light poles were installed in the area, they are insufficient to meet the needs of the population.

According to testimonies from many residents of Douar Al-Nkhila, the project, which was meant to provide lighting for homes, started in 2017 but has remained incomplete since then. Work on the project stopped without clear justification, and despite the installation of a small number of poles, they remain ineffective, leaving residents to suffer in the dark during nighttime hours.

The residents have called on the relevant authorities to speed up the completion of the project, stressing that the lack of lighting poses a threat to personal and community security. It also makes it difficult to move around at night, especially for children and the elderly. The project was expected to improve the quality of life in the area and boost local development, but the delay in its completion reflects a lack of prompt response to the residents’ demands.

The community highlights that this issue is not an isolated one, but rather part of an ongoing struggle in several areas of the Sidi Hamou Miftah commune, where basic services are lacking, further exacerbating the challenges faced by the residents.

In light of this situation, the people of Douar Al-Nkhila are calling for immediate action to resolve this delay, considering the completion of the lighting project as a priority that must receive urgent attention.
