The residents of the Douars in Ain Qansra, a commune in the Moulay Yacoub district, are facing a dire environmental and health situation due to continuous pollution of Oued Sebou’s waters caused by the accumulation of waste along its banks, which poses a serious threat to public health, according to local sources.
According to residents, the primary cause of this pollution is the neglect experienced by the area from the Fes commune and the companies responsible for managing sanitation and waste. These entities are accused of not taking effective action to address the waste problem, which continuously finds its way into the river, further polluting its waters.
Residents have pointed out that the environmental and public health situation in the area is becoming a real threat to public health, exposing them to continuous health risks due to the pollution in Oued Sebou’s waters. In this context, residents are urging local authorities and concerned parties to intervene immediately to stop this worsening pollution and take strict measures to protect the environment and ensure their safety.
Regarding local efforts to tackle the crisis, the Ain Qansra Commune Council has confirmed that it is working to remove waste from the riverbanks using specialized equipment and staff. However, local civil society groups have expressed their dissatisfaction with the failure of Fes officials to take effective action to reduce the pollution, noting that the situation directly threatens the lives of the residents.
This crisis has highlighted the lack of coordination between the involved local municipalities and the weak responsibility of the concerned authorities in Fes regarding this environmental disaster. Civil society groups in Ain Qansra have called for immediate intervention by the relevant authorities to address the issue, warning that continued neglect of their demands could lead to severe consequences that further endanger the safety of the residents.
